Takahe Stream v5a3IV**

Highest drop 61m (2x50m ropes, hanging re-belays)

Private access up the Wilberforce valley. Notes on access in the canyon topo.

5-8hrshrs

Some big pitches, with hanging re-belays in a beautiful greywacke canyon.

All parties visiting this canyon should bring a drill, bolts and the knowledge to upgrade the anchors present.  Log any maintenance as a trip report so we can bring this great canyon up to the best possible anchor standards 🙂

First Descent, Tom Johns and Keiran Chandler, 15 Feb 2017. Thanks to Tom Johns for the photos and topo information.

  1. Ben says:

Great condition. The marked spur descending to the top of the canyon exits around the confluence of Takehe Stream and the second stream on the on True Left above 24m waterfall. This matches the draft topo description, but is ~200 to 300m further up than the green marked on the draft topo. We had some less experienced party members – expect experienced canyoners may be much faster. Replaced some tape on anchors.
