Black Miller Stream is a short fun canyoning trip which is not difficult in normal flows & so is an excellent trip for experienced canyoners to introduce beginners to the sport or to break up a road trip through Kaikoura with a short diversion.

    Approach is hard to find. The orange string marking the Hunters trail is missing in place,. Both the hunters trail and the old farm track further up are getting very overgrown. Once in the canyon it’s nice enough, lots of fallen trees and low branches in the upper reaches that would be big snag hazards in higher flow. More traffic would make this trip much more pleasant.

    Final rappels are delightful and make the trip worth it!
