Highest drop 60m. 3x 60m reccommended
Helicopter approach / 4hr descent / Helicopter return
Public access
Lots of vertical in a sunny northwest-facing canyon. A very short (ie, affordable) helicopter flight from Mt Cook airport gets you to the top, and back across the mighty Tasman River at the end.
The exit series of 7 back-to-back rappels is committing once started, hold and and enjoy the ride.
Thanks to Justin Hall for the topo and image.
First descent: French ‘Aotearoa 15’ Expedition – Jan 2015. Second descent and write-up: 8 February 2023 (Sheree Atkinson, Gabriela Scheufele, Justin Hall).
