Mackay Creek v4a2III** (grade pending until there are enough trip logs)

12m (at least 1x40m recommended)

4hrs: 1h30/2h/30min (approach/descent/return

Public access

An incredibly deep slot canyon with 10 pitches. Despite the low aquatic difficulty this is a great Fiordland canyoning trip. Suitable as an introduction to the area or as an easier day.

First descent: Alex Motyka, Amy Burney, Ben Fletcher, Christian Miller, Conor Handley, and Patrick Timm. December 2025.

Thanks to Alex and Christian for photos and topo.

  1. José J Pintado J says:

Excellent bolting work by the first descent team (Alex Motyka et al., December 2025) !!!

All anchors are in perfect condition and very well positioned, safely out of reach of normal flood events.

A very aesthetic canyon with a continuous and sporty descent. The access route is easy to follow as described in the topo.
I’ll upload the approach track and a few more details to KiwiCanyons Facebook soon.
