Agility Creek v3a2III* (grade pending until there are enough trip logs)

Highest Drop 32m

Time 7-8 hrs

Public Access

Agility Creek is a steep, vertical alpine descent. As it is accessed off the Mingha track makes this a classic Arthur’s Pass canyon. The canyon features a series of beautiful pitches with enclosed walls, amazing pools and smooth, solid bedrock. Well worth the walk.

Use the canyon topo as a guide. Access into the Agility Creek canyon follows the rim most of the way. Let the bush and terrain guide you on the best route once you start sidling. The route does not involve bush bashing.

First descent, James Abbot, Nola Collie, Grant Prattley March 2020.

  1. Christian Miller says:

The approach isn’t as straightforward as we expected. We found it easy enough to get to 1050m but from there the route is less clear and sidling is through very heavy bush. Probably the secret is to go slightly higher up and it will improve significantly. With our less ideal route it took over an hour longer and was hard work.

The canyon is good though, easy going and some cool features, all anchors good just be ready to replace some webbing.
